  What is a Virtual Assistant?

Virtual Assistance is an alternative, cost-effective method of providing support to professionals and businesses.  A professional Virtual Assistant (VA) works as an independent contractor from his/her home office and provides business services and support in areas where business owners need help, without being physically present at the business owner’s location.  Areas of assistance include administration, creative and/or technical services.

Who can Virtual Assistants support?
  • VAs can help anyone in need of business support including small business owners, independent consultants and large corporations.
  • Areas of support vary depending on the VAs areas of expertise.
  • In a number of cases, the VA becomes the business professional's right hand person, taking care of crucial tasks to keep the entrepreneurs enterprise functioning and growing.

How Does a Virtual Assistant Work?
  • A Virtual Assistant works primarily from a home office completing tasks and utilizing up to date computer hardware and software as well as a full-range of office equipment.
  • Typically, Virtual Assistants charge per project or per hour.
  • Clients are billed specifically for time spent working directly on projects.
  • Work is returned to clients through a pre-determined method such as email, fax or courier.

What are the advantages of a Virtual Assistant?

The advantage to a business owner of contracting the services of a VA are numerous.  Some are listed below:

  • Cost and Time Effective: Work is focussed and concentrated to accomplish greater results in less time.  Those contracting a VA don't pay insurance premiums, health benefits, holidays, sick days, lunch breaks, office space or costly equipment such as computers.  Virtual Assistants use their own equipment from their home office.  Work is then provided via email, fax, courier or a suitable, agreed upon method.
  • Easy: Virtual Assistants are independent contractors.  They do not work "for" business owners, they work "with" them.  This means that contracting a VA does not require the hassles of paperwork associated with hiring traditional part or full-time employees.
  • Professional: Professional Virtual Assistants are trained and skilled in numerous areas of business support
  • Flexible:  If you need ongoing support, most Virtual Assistants are available for ongoing work.  If you only require occaisional help during peak times or special projects, a VA is a reliable, competent source for business support when you need it.

You may be able to greatly benefit from the services of a Virtual Assistant if you feel that you:

  • need business support but don't have the space for an in-office employee
  • are stretched into too many directions trying to cover all bases
  • need support from someone who understands the business world and has an entrepreneurial spirit
  • want more time to focus on your business success without being bogged down by details and administrative tasks
